At Wise Eyes Optometrists, we understand that children are not just little adults as far as the testing of their eyes is concerned. We need to adapt and modify our testing methods to meet the needs of each child. We believe that all children should have their eyes tested before they start school to detect and address eye health or vision problems. This will ensure that they get the best possible start to their education journey. As children get older, any undetected eye health issues are harder to treat and can impact learning and development.
When it comes to vision, childrens and adults needs differ greatly. For one, children tend to have a hard time assessing their own vision, and usually assume that the way they see the blackboard or a page in a book is the same as everybody else. Poor vision can seriously affect your child’s development, and visual fatigue can hamper progress at school. If your child is having trouble paying attention in class, is slow in learning to read, or if they tend to be withdrawn and find it hard to get along with other children, they may need vision care. We will work closely with parents, as well as teachers and other health professionals to provide a holistic approach to assessing and treating your child’s vision.
Using specific technology and equipment designed for children’s eye tests, we test for:
Visual Acuity
Colour vision
Depth perception
Eye turns and 'lazy' eyes
Visual Perception Testing
An eye examination is able to determine whether a child’s visual skills are adequate for the visual demands expected in the school and home learning environments. At Wise Eyes Optometrists, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide a thorough vision assessment for your child to identify potential areas of limitation. Our optometrists will then work with you and your child to strengthen those areas to help your child achieve their best. Treatment options include not only spectacles but also eye exercises and Vision Therapy Programs.
We stock an extensive range of quality children's frames. Our expert optical staff can help you select and fit the right frames for your child.
We are an accredited practice and part of the paediatric optometry alignment program with the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
